A Message from the Founder:

Ever since I could remember I’ve always had a special bond with animals. Growing up I can recall so many instances of crossing paths with stray dogs and cats and immediately thinking, “How can I help?” Luckily, my mother has always been an animal lover, and soon enough any strays I came across became new members of our family. This connection with animals held no boundaries, nor was it just a phase. In fact, my love for animals only grew stronger as I grew older.

Last year, my longing to want to do more for animals in need led me to take the volunteer orientation at ACCT Philly. At first, I thought to myself, can I really go through with this? Will these animals be able to trust me? Will I be able to accept the fact that not all of them can be saved? Soon I realized that not only can I do this, but I would be incomplete if I did not.

Yes, it is true that some of the animals I met have been neglected and abused their entire life. Unfortunately for some of them, the only thing they know before coming to the shelter is pain and fear. Yet, despite all their hardships they unwillingly suffered, in their eyes remains a glimpse of hope and a yearning to be loved. I’ve seen that hope before—in the eyes of every stray animal I once took into my own home.

Through volunteering, I am able to give love and hope back to every animal I meet. It’s a way to teach animals that no matter how bad the past may have been, a better life can start today. After work and on weekend mornings, I spend any free time I have with amazing animals who are just looking for a second chance.

My experience with ACCT Philly has, and continues to teach me so much and the time I spend with other volunteers and the animals has reignited my passion and shed a brighter light on my purpose.

There are many ways to get involved and educate yourself on how and why this selfless work is needed. One thing I learned is that investing your time with these amazing animals is the only investment you can’t possibly lose on. No matter how big or small, your time and contribution is making a difference and you won’t regret the feeling of joy in knowing that you chose to make a change and speak up for those who cannot.
